Victorian Valley Barn Estate

The owners found a barn they liked in Pennsylvania and had it dismantled and trucked to Orcas Island. The 120-year-old frame was assembled on site with the help of a crane. We built a conventionally framed new barn around the old barn, treating the old barn like a piece of furniture. The engineer wouldn’t let us put a single nail connecting the two barns. The original floor was used, too — fastened with square-cut nails, lightly sanded, and triple-coated for a hard, cleanable, no-sliver finish.
